Detecting and Managing Glaucoma in Its Early Stages

When it’s about our eyes, we should take any discomfort as a big deal because it can progress to a disease called glaucoma, a group of eye conditions resulting from the damage of the optic nerve.

This National Glaucoma Awareness Month, allow us, Hampton Roads Health and Wellness Care LLC, your provider of urgent care services in Chesapeake, Virginia, to share with you how you can detect and manage glaucoma in its early stages.

  • Learn about your family’s eye health history.

Knowing whether glaucoma runs in your bloodline or not is one way of knowing if you’re at a higher risk for this condition. This way, you can undergo screenings more frequently. We have laboratory services for this, so please visit us sometime.

  • Get regular eye examinations.

Detect eye problems like glaucoma before it’s too late to treat the damages. For 40 years old and below, eye screenings should be done every 5-10 years, 2-4 years for those ages 40-54, 1-3 years for individuals between ages 55-64, and 1-2 years for those whose age is 65 and above. However, frequent screening should be undergone by those at higher risk, and primary care should be considered as well.

  • Wear eye protection.

Visit your ophthalmologist for the right everyday eyeglasses for you. If you’re doing constructive work, on the other hand, wearing sturdy eye protection is also recommended.

  • Use eye drops.

This reduces the risk for glaucoma, so you should utilize it as advised despite not having symptoms yet.

With us, you’re at ease because our wellness center is equipped with enough resources and the right people to guide you in detecting and managing glaucoma.
